How to Improve Night Vision
Security Camera performance in the hours of darkness is often more important than in the daylight. The Deep Sentinel Camera has better than average night vision and detection. The Cameras capture the farthest and widest range of vision possible in order to meet the goals of a perimeter detection device.
The Cameras automatically adjust to ambient light. They determine when to switch between color video and infrared light / night vision video.
Most Cameras will be installed and tested in the daytime but can give completely different results during nighttime hours or as seasons shift. Detailed video images can be captured both day and night but sometimes Camera setup may need adjustments to improve Night Vision performance.
Most Night Vision Specific issues are caused by the Cameras infrared light reflecting off a surface near the camera.
Symptoms include:
- Glare or blurry areas in the video.
- A part of the video field of view is bright white while other parts are too dark.
Here are some tips to improve night vision performance. Review the video in Live View after each step.
- Check that no solid or reflective surfaces are near the front or sides of each Camera. Reflective surfaces such as metal or glass and even some plants can cause light reflection. If possible, remove these objects or reposition the Camera.
- Tilt the camera away from surfaces such as wall siding so it is outside the field of view. These surfaces can be illuminated by the Camera infrared light and cause the Camera to automatically adjust the exposure so other objects in the scene are too dark.
- Clean the Camera lens with a soft cloth that’s made for cleaning optics. Dust and fingerprints can cause poor image quality.
