PoE System Overview

This document provides an overview of the Deep Sentinel (DS) PoE System and covers the following:

  1. PoE System Components
  2. Third-Party Camera Integration (BETA)
  3. PoE System Accessories
  4. DS App
  5. Internet Upload Requirements
  6. PoE System Installation Best Practices
  7. Equipment Specifications

PoE System Components

The DS PoE system includes the following primary components:

  • PoE Hub: The AI brain and conduit for all video events received from Cameras. Each PoE Hub supports up to 25 cameras. Multiple Hubs can be used at the same property. The Hub must be connected to the Internet by a network cable.
  • PoE Cameras: Mount on the property exterior to detect motion and stream video events to the PoE Hub in real-time. Cameras connect directly to the PoE Hub over a wired Ethernet network.

Third-Party Camera Integration (BETA)
Deep Sentinel’s live guard monitoring services are compatible with select third-party PoE cameras.

Currently, certified camera manufacturers are:

  • Hikvision
  • UniView
  • Oviss
  • More camera models to be certified

Integration of third-party cameras with the DS system is currently in the beta testing phase.

PoE System Accessories

The following accessories are available for the wireless system:

  • TP-Link switch: Existing PoE Switches can be used with the DS PoE system. DS also offers a 16-port switch from TP-Link (model number TL-SL1218MP) that supports PoE transmission for surveillance up to 273 yds.

DS App

Through the DS app, you can:

  • Onboard the hub
  • Add cameras
  • Configure cameras

Through the app, you will have access to live and recorded security footage. Through our app, you will also be able to engage (talk and listen) to anyone on the property the same way our guards do through the security cameras.

Internet Upload Requirements

PoE_system_connections.jpg

The system uploads multiple streams of video in parallel so a reliable Internet connection and fast upload speed are required.

Most customers know their internet download speed, but upload speed is frequently overlooked and this speed is most critical for the system.

After the Hub is connected and onboarded, you can verify the internet speed the Hub is receiving using the App.

We flag the importance of upload speed to customers before purchasing the system but you may still see issues in the field. So be prepared to discuss the possible need for upgrading Internet service.

We recommend a base of 5 Mbps and 1.5 Mbps (upload) per camera

PoE System Installation Best Practices

  • If engineers do an off-site setup prior to on-site installation, it is important to use the same router, switch, camera(s), and PoE Hub for setup as will be deployed at the customer installation. If the router or other hardware is changed, you will have to onboard the Hub and cameras again.
  • Hub placement:
    • To prevent overheating, place the hub in a ventilated area.
  • Cables: Use Cat 5e or better cables such as Cat 6. Copper Clad Aluminum (CCA) cables are not suitable for PoE systems. Ensure that you are using solid copper cables. The maximum recommended length for a Cat-5e or Cat-6 cable is 100 m or 328 ft.
  • Internet speed: Complete an internet speed test at the system planning stage to verify this is not a blocker. Because WiFI speeds fluctuate, always perform the speed test from a laptop or device that is connected by an Ethernet cable to the Internet modem/router.

  • Camera placement:
    • Height: The recommended camera height is 6 to 8 ft (2 to 2.25 m).
    • Downtilt: The recommended range of bullet camera downtilt angles for best performance is 15 to 20 degrees.
  • NVR: If the TP-Link PoE switch (TL-SL1218MP) is used, the “Extend Mode” feature is not recommended if an NVR is used on the network and the camera video resolution is set to 4K.
  • Power:
    • UPS: Use a UPS to protect the Hub, Internet modem, and PoE switches/cameras from power outages.
    • Power extender:
      • Only use power extenders with circuit breakers to prevent the possibility of fire.
      • Don’t “daisy chain” power extenders.
